This scholarship is offered by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) to support outstanding students, scholars and currently employed Chinese language teachers from all over the world to study in China.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Confucius Institute Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be a non-Chinese citizen and in good health.
- You must have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 3), and 60 on the HSKK test (Beginner Level) for the one-academic-year study program.
- You must have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level) for the one-semester study program.
- You must have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK Test (Level 5) and 100 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level) for the Master’s degree program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL).
- You must have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 5) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level) for the Bachelor’s degree program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL).
- You must have a recommendation letter from a Confucius Institute (or a Confucius Classroom), a foreign language department of a university, or an educational institution that has a cooperative relationship with Hanban.
- You must be between the ages of 16 and 35 for the one-academic-year and one-semester study programs, and under the age of 45 for the MTCSOL and BTCSOL programs, and in service Chinese language teachers must be under the age of 50.

Financial Coverage
The Confucius Institute Scholarship covers the following expenses for the selected applicants:
- Tuition fee and accommodation fee.
- Living allowance of CNY 2,500 per month for the one-academic-year and one-semester study programs, and CNY 3,000 per month for the MTCSOL and BTCSOL programs.
- Comprehensive medical insurance.
- International travel expenses are not covered by the scholarship.
Requirement
The applicants must meet the following requirements to apply for the Confucius Institute Scholarship:
- You must complete the online application form on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website ([1]).
- You must upload the scanned copies of the following documents to the online application system:
- Passport photo page.
- HSK and HSKK score reports.
- Highest diploma and academic transcripts.
- Recommendation letter.
- For the MTCSOL and BTCSOL programs, you must also provide a personal statement, a copy of your valid foreign teacher qualification certificate or employment agreement, and two reference letters from experts in the field of Chinese language teaching.
- For applicants under the age of 18, you must also provide a guardian’s letter of guarantee and a copy of the guardian’s passport or ID card.

How to Apply
The application procedure for the Confucius Institute Scholarship is as follows:

- You must track your application status on the website and wait for the admission notice from the host institution.
- You must apply for a visa to China with the admission notice and the JW202 form issued by the host institution.
