The Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is a competitive and prestigious scholarship scheme designed to encourage outstanding graduates or final-year students to take their first step towards a leading research career by studying for a full time PhD at NTU. The scholarship is fully funded and covers tuition fees, monthly stipend, conference allowance, book allowance, IT allowance, and thesis allowance. The scholarship does not come with any obligatory service commitment and is renewable annually based on satisfactory progress.
Eligible Criteria
There is no restriction as to the nationality of candidates. Preference will be given to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents. You must have a Honours (Highest Distinction) or equivalent at Bachelor’s level. If you have not yet completed your undergraduate degree programme, you will need to furnish documentation from your university that you are on track to get a Honours (Highest Distinction) degree or equivalent. You must also have a good research track record and be able to demonstrate strong research potential.
Financial Coverage
The NPGS offers the following financial benefits to the awardees:
- Full tuition fees coverage
- Monthly stipend of S$4,000 for Singapore Citizens, S$3,800 for Singapore Permanent Residents, and S$3,500 for International Students
- Conference allowance of up to S$4,000 per financial year
- Book allowance of S$500 per annum
- IT allowance of S$1,500 (one-time)
- Thesis allowance of S$600 (one-time)

Requirement
To apply for the NPGS, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must have applied to NTU for admission to a PhD programme and indicated your interest in the NPGS
- You must have a Bachelor’s degree with Honours (Highest Distinction) or equivalent
- You must have a good research track record and strong research potential
- You must have good communication and interpersonal skills
- You must have good leadership qualities and a strong passion for research
Document Requirement
You will need to submit the following documents as part of your application for the NPGS:
- A completed online application form
- A research proposal of not more than 5 pages
- A curriculum vitae
- Certified true copies of academic transcripts and degree certificates
- Two academic referee reports
- A copy of your identification document (e.g. passport or NRIC)
- A copy of your TOEFL/IELTS/GRE/GMAT scores (if applicable)
- Any other supporting documents that may strengthen your application

Application Procedure
How to Apply
The application procedure for the NPGS is as follows:
- You must first apply to NTU for admission to a PhD programme via the online application system
- You must indicate your interest in the NPGS in the online application form and upload your research proposal and other required documents
- You must also arrange for two academic referees to submit their reports online
- You must submit your online application by the stipulated deadline
- You will be notified of the outcome of your application by email
Deadline
The deadline for the NPGS application is 31 December 2023 for the August 2024 intake. You are advised to apply early as the scholarship is highly competitive and limited in number.
