The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is one of the leading research universities in China, renowned for its excellence in science and technology. USTC offers a variety of academic programs for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, covering fields such as natural sciences, engineering, management, humanities, and social sciences. USTC also provides various scholarships and fellowships for international students who wish to pursue their studies at USTC.
Eligibility Criteria
The USTC Fellowship Awards 2024-2025 are open to international students who meet the following criteria:
- Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, in good physical and mental health
- Having passed new HSK Level 5 or above; applicants whose native language is Chinese, or can provide proof of studying at a high school where the teaching language is Chinese, can apply for HSK test exemption
- Emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan applying as international students must obtain their current foreign citizenship before April 30th, 2024. In addition, the applicant must live abroad for at least 2 years during the period between April 30th, 2024 and April 30th, 2025 (more than 9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year)
- The conditions set by the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC should be met
- Applicants must hold a high school diploma (equivalent to high school diploma in China) by July of 2025 for undergraduate programs, a bachelor’s degree by July of 2025 for master’s programs, and a master’s degree by July of 2025 for doctoral programs
- Applicants must be under the age of 30 by September 1st, 2025 for undergraduate programs, under the age of 35 by September 1st, 2025 for master’s programs, and under the age of 40 by September 1st, 2025 for doctoral programs
- Applicants who have been granted for other Chinese scholarship or funds (2024-2025) cannot apply for this fellowship

Financial Coverage
The USTC Fellowship Awards 2024-2025 have different levels of financial coverage depending on the program and the source of funding. The details are as follows:
- Undergraduate programs: Level A, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, monthly stipend of 2,500 RMB and accommodation subsidy; Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver
- Master’s programs: Level A, funded by the Chinese Government Scholarship, includes tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, monthly stipend of 3,000 RMB and accommodation subsidy; Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver and comprehensive medical insurance
- Doctoral programs: Level A, funded by the Chinese Government Scholarship, includes tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, monthly stipend of 3,500 RMB and accommodation subsidy; Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver and comprehensive medical insurance

Requirement
Applicants for the USTC Fellowship Awards 2024-2025 must meet the academic and language requirements of the program they are applying for. They must also submit the online application form and the required documents before the deadline. Applicants may be contacted for an online interview or a written test if necessary. The final admission and fellowship results will be announced by USTC in June 2025.
Document Requirement
The following documents are required for the USTC Fellowship Awards 2024-2025 application:
- Application Form for International Students (Undergraduate Program, Master’s Program, or Doctoral Program)
- Photocopy of passport (including pages with Chinese visa or residence permit, if applicable)
- Notarized photocopies of highest diploma and transcripts. Applicants who will be graduating before July 2025 should provide Pre-graduation Certificate issued by their current institution (Original diploma and transcripts are required upon registration if get admitted)
- Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English
- Study plan or research proposal, in Chinese or English, no less than 800 words for master’s programs and no less than 1500 words for doctoral programs
- Photocopy of new HSK certificate, if applicable
- Photocopy of academic achievements or awards, if applicable
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form, in English, completed within 6 months before the application deadline
Application Procedure
How to Apply
The application procedure for the USTC Fellowship Awards 2024-2025 is as follows:
- Create an account in the USTC Application System and select the fellowship that you want to apply for. Applicants can either apply for one level or two levels at the same time. USTC will decide which level of the fellowship may be given based on the comprehensive evaluation of the applicant
- Fill in the online application form and upload the scanned copies of the required documents
- Submit the application and pay the application fee of 600 RMB
- Check the email box used for login in the application system for further application documentation, online interview information, and admission and fellowship results
Deadline
The application deadline for the USTC Fellowship Awards 2024-2025 is March 31st, 2025 for undergraduate programs, and February 15th, 2025 for master’s and doctoral programs.
